Radon Test Services
Background on Radon
Radon is a gas that can be found all over the United States and can get into any building. This gas comes from the natural breakdown of radioactive uranium in soil, rock and water. Homes, offices, and schools can all potentially contain high levels of radon, but most likely at home.
Radon is estimated to cause many thousands of deaths each year. The Surgeon General has warned that radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States today. If found elevated in buildings, radon mitigation systems may be installed to rectify the situation. No level of radon is considered safe, however there are actionable levels that the EPA has adopted.
Regulations & Testing
The average indoor radon level is estimated to be about 1.3 pCi/L, and about 0.4 pCi/L of radon is normally found in the outside air. The U.S. Congress has set a long-term goal that indoor radon levels be no more than outdoor levels. While this goal is not yet technologically achievable in all cases, most homes today can be reduced to 2 pCi/L or below.
Radon levels are acquired utilizing a continuous radon monitor, which is set to collect ambient air levels. These machines must collect levels for a minimum or 48 hours, usually 72 hours. The EPA has set an action level of 4 pCi/L to require mitigation.
Our Services
We offer a complete test in homes, buildings, and other properties to determine radon levels and thus if remediation is needed. AEC uses a certified compliant Radon Detector/Monitor for these inspections.
